2023 In Review

We are only about 10 days away from a new year. Wow, the older I get the faster time flies by. I’m grateful for each day, I’m grateful for my health, I’m grateful for my family, I’m grateful for the ability to live in Hawai’i.

What are you grateful for?

Looking back I know I did not always do my best to support my health. I am human. I make poor choices sometimes…it happens. Even to a nutritional therapist. But today I am making a decision to make better choices.

Why before Christmas and why don’t I not wait for New Year’s when most people make resolutions?? Well because today I know I need to. Today I feel like my body is telling me to take time to rest, to prioritize sleep more, to eat more vegetables :)

Our bodies are WISE so we should listen to them.

I work hard to be healthy without traditional Western medical intervention. I utilize as many natural, holistic, and alternative methods I can. It can be a LOT! But I know that these small daily decisions are better in the long run. Western medicine is about prescribing drugs, oftentimes strong drugs, for people like me. Those with an autoimmune disease can really get on the merry go round of always taking drugs.

I don’t want to.

I believe that drugs taken for decades can only cause other health issues…some of them HUGE!

I believe our bodies can heal.

So, if you are like me then know you are not alone. We are choosing an ‘alternative’ path. Although why is eating healthy, moving, sleeping, working on stress reduction, journaling, etc “alternative” wasn’t that called HEALTH for centuries? We have it all wrong in this country. We should say that Western medicine which leads with a prescription is the “alternative” and when we choose to eat a nutrient dense diet and make lifestyle changes - that is “traditional”. Just my two cents.

So, today I choose not to eat a bunch of holiday treats made with refined sugar. I choose not to drink more than one alcoholic drink a week. I choose to not over schedule and do too much. I choose to continue cooking the vast majority of our meals at home and when I attend a party to take a meal that supports my health. I choose to smile, laugh, enjoy friends and family, for that is HEALTHY.

I hope you choose similar for your health. Much love to all and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family.
