Autoimmune Disease Confusion
Having an autoimmune disease is somewhat like being jet lagged. Life can be so up and down. Symptoms are often random and sporadic. Your symptoms may be different than others with your disease. And getting a proper diagnosis often requires you to be an investigator and sadly takes years.
Do you have brain fog, fatigue, random pains, rashes, headaches, stomach issues, etc? Can’t figure out what is going on? You think you are doing ok… then wham you can’t get out of bed!
So many of my clients struggle with random symptoms, symptoms that most doctors don’t connect to an autoimmune disease. Symptoms that most doctors poo-poo and tell you to take a NSAID, or tell you it is just part of life/aging, etc. That is crap. Sorry, I don’t believe that.
I believe we are meant to live long healthy lives and live them VIBRANTLY. We should have energy each day to do whatever we want, we should have a clear brain to do whatever we need, we should have clear skin, and we should have a healthy gut.
But we don’t.
Approximately 50 million Americans have an autoimmune disease. And sadly, many have more than one. In addition to that, the numbers are increasing about 5-10% per year. This is terrifying and we MUST do something to halt this progression.
It is NOT your fault you have an autoimmune disease.
It is NOT all your “bad genes”.
It is NOT all because you eat french fries.
It is a disease that takes years to progress to noticeable symptoms.
What can you do?
Eat organic and Non-GMO foods
Eat TONS of vegetables and fruits
Eat pastured and grass-fed protein
Cook at home
Eliminate fast food
Eliminate oils like canola, vegetable, soybean, safflower
Eliminate refined sugar (all forms)
Drink water, unsweetened iced tea, coffee
Toss the non-stick pans
Don’t use aluminum anything (foil, pans, typical deodorant, etc)
Upgrade your personal care products to cleaner items
Sleep well
Move daily
Put unrefined sea salt in your water
Read labels constantly
Educate yourself
I think I still detox the junk body lotion I used to use daily, although it has been almost a decade that stuff is hard to get rid of!
It isn’t about being perfect. It is about being better, and being aware. Yes, I do periodically have a gelato - but it certainly isn’t every week.
When you heal from an autoimmune disease life is no longer about your stupid symptoms. You can just LIVE. I hope you take a moment and begin to make changes to upgrade your food and products.
