Balance Your Hormones

We have a variety of different hormones in our body that each perform their own unique function. I always think of hormones as picky eaters…you know like a 7 year old child that makes dining out a challenge. Hormones are sensitive, they talk to our organs, their optimal range is quite narrow.

Hormones affect our mood, weight, digestion, and energy. So, basically they affect us!

Different organs produce different hormones and imbalance can cause havoc that we often might not associate with hormone issues. This is far bigger than “it’s that time of the month”.

Some signs our hormones are out of balance:

  • we can’t lose that stubborn 10 pounds

  • irregular periods

  • we are moody!

  • acne

  • chronic fatigue

  • infertility

  • always being hungry/thirsty

  • anxiety or depression

Some of the biggest factors that negatively impact hormones:

  • a processed diet

  • too much sugar

  • chronic inflammation

  • stress

  • a leaky gut (guy permeability)

  • nutrient deficiencies

What can you do?

  • Sleep

  • Move daily 30+ minutes

  • Eat healthy fats (extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, ghee, avocados in all forms, fatty fish)

  • Reduce or eliminate sugar, especially processed highly refined sugar

  • Be mindful each day for 10 minutes, yoga, breathing, mediating, praying - however you are moved

When it comes to hormones I think having your doctor run some lab work is an excellent way to understand, track, and manage your hormone balances. You will see that small changes as listed above offer big impact to support proper hormone balance.

When you work with me we talk a LOT about food. But we also spend time discussing lifestyle changes you can make to support great health. Working with a nutritional therapy practitioner is a great way to support a holistic life. Reach out if you are interesting in learning more :) Aloha
