Haole Brownies (Paleo)

In Hawaiian ‘haole’ means a person who is non-Hawaiian, especially a white person. Our favorite restaurant for plate lunch serves haole brownies. I thought that was funny they called them haole instead of blondie. So, I decided to make my own version.

This recipe is worth turning the oven on in the summertime!

These are moist and light, not quite as rich as regular chocolate brownies. I hope you enjoy.

In Hawaiian 'haole' means a non-Hawaiian, especially a white person. This term is often used as a descriptor when talking about people. Our favorite place to get a plate lunch sells haole brownies, I thought that was funny and decided to make my own paleo ones. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups almond flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp sea salt
  • 2 Tbsp ghee
  • 3 Tbsp coconut sugar
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • ¼ cup maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup creamy almond butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare an 8 inch square pan with parchment paper. I like to add just a dollop of oil the paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir
  3. In a small bowl add the ghee, sugar, egg, syrup, almond butter, and vanilla. Stir until well combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until smooth.
  5. Add the chocolate chips and stir to incorporate.
  6. Pour the batter into the pan.
  7. Bake for 18 minutes. Turn pan around halfway through. Check with toothpick when it comes out clean it is done.
  8. Allow brownies to cool in the pan at least 20 minutes.

Notes

You can use white chocolate chips to keep the haole brownies more white if you like. I personally prefer the flavor of regular chocolate chips ;)
